We get tons of calls from customers asking us how they can access their QuickBooks company file while they are on the road. Although Intuit offers some pricey services that make this possible, we have discovered a free solution that gets the job done!
Here's your recipe for remote access to your QuickBooks file:
Ingredients:
1 PC with QuickBooks Installed
1 Internet Access (preferably high speed)
1 Install iRemotePC (www.iremotepc.com)
The iRemote PC service is free of charge and has many of the same features as the more commonly used GotoMyPC service. iRemotePC offers chat, file transfers, folder synchronization, PC monitoring (as opposed to control) and even guest access (meaning you can invite others to connect to your PC for live presentations, demos, etc.).
Interestingly, only the host PC requires the iRemotePC software. To connect to that machine, you simply log in via the iRemotePC site. We had a little trouble accessing a Vista system, but it worked fine on an XP machine.
